Newly Found Halves

by Dwayne Kilbourne on September 13, 2010

A beautiful fruit tree sat
In the forest a long time
How hidden from the boy
For truly an unnecessary crime

This tree while imperfect
Bear such great fruit you see
The best nutrients within
All so filling and healthy

The fruits were mixed hybrids
Often tested and true
While this tree sometimes forgotten
It still blossomed and grew

Each half fruit isolated
And each endured a great deal
How great it is now
Boy discovered such great appeal

Ten Seconds

by Dwayne Kilbourne on September 13, 2010

Doesn’t seem like much
A few ticks of the clock
But each second so powerful
If we decide to unlock

Tomorrow’s not a guarantee
So don’t ignore today
Reach out to one another
Instead of hard-to-get play

Time is so very precious
Yet passes by so quick’
Still your choice to manage
Your decision – your pick

Dying Chivalry

by Dwayne Kilbourne on September 5, 2010

True chivalry is slowly dying
A lost art to most
Gentlemen forgotten and run over
In their faces bad ones boast

Chivalry just must not matter
Nor does it get recognition due
How did we get to this point?
Explain as I don’t have a clue

Who still appreciates this art?
Should I really care?
Oh, how this is debated inside!
A new approach need prepare?

If we all are equal
Many think this art should go
But, what’s wrong with it still?
I guess I’ll call the AFL-CIO

All Aboard

by Dwayne Kilbourne on September 2, 2010

Board the train
Before it leaves
Once departed your seat
You can’t retrieve

Take your seat early
Or at least on time
Don’t plan on departure delays
That would be such a crime

The train is forward facing
It doesn’t go in reverse
A beautiful journey ahead
No hindsight worry curse

So will you be aboard
When the train leaves the station?
Or will you regret later
The missed trip and celebration?

Hope For The Nice Guy

by Dwayne Kilbourne on August 29, 2010

Hope for the nice guy
Is there such a thing?
Someone willing and able
To remove this hurtful sting

Hope for the nice guy
A player he is not
A patient and true gentleman
Worthy of a full-fledged shot

Hope for the nice guy
Really too much to ask?
Some days are so trying
And shouldn’t feel like a task

Hope for the nice guy
He must be doing wrong
Only so much he can handle
Even though he’s really strong

Battle Endurance

by Dwayne Kilbourne on August 28, 2010

Cool evening air
In tough battle alone
Followed all the rules
Much courage I’ve shown

The dim stars in the sky
Still reveal some hope
Yet another storm or two
I’m surely to cope

Prepared as best a soldier can
To win the war today
Aiming with warrior focus
Figuring out the right way

This battle night so long
And tired I grow some more
But carry on I must
And see what future’s in store

I’m no consolation prize
You have to earn all of me
I’m truly one-of-a-kind
Once-in-a-lifetime catch you see

I’m gentle at heart
A gentleman and more
Often taken for granted
Hindsight many wish restore

I’m a worthy top prize
Worth the effort indeed
A strong yet delicate soldier
Who’s endure much misdeed

This grand prize awaits
For actions aligned
Patience great but not infinite
Take a risk of some kind

Wounded Warrior War

by Dwayne Kilbourne on August 16, 2010

The wounded warrior so strong
Stronger than many see
Determined to do what’s right
Be the very best he can be

It’s amazing, though, how often
Many feel sorry for the enemy foe
Yet forget about the great guy
His commitment away you throw?

The battle so tough and ugly
And real tears do flow
Even when the proud injured warrior
Does his best not to show

The struggles of battle so real
They aren’t found absentee
So, stand up for what is right
Don’t walk away or flee

Five Alive

by Dwayne Kilbourne on August 4, 2010

Remember my precious dear
To have no fear
You brighten my every sky
Smile and know
That you make me glow
Keeping me motivated to fly

You constantly make my day
With the great things you say
And you do this so effortlessly
When I’m with you
I feel put together like glue
Extra motivated and stress-free

So when you wake up tomorrow
Remember to smile – no sorrow
Know that you’re on my mind
Me you’ve truly impressed
Plus, no games – I’m very blessed
You’re truly a one-of-a-kind

Ten Month Darkness

by Dwayne Kilbourne on July 30, 2010

This ten month battle
Came to an end
Now, this new peace and potential
I seek to defend

Many dark nights
Came and went
Cry to my fellow brothers
To them I’d vent

Positive thoughts and faith
Kept me strong
Yet sometimes I wonder
How I lasted this long

Thankfully, there’s hope
And a new beginning begins
Maybe, finally, and hopefully
This nice soldier wins
